This sculptured vase was thrown on the potters wheel and attached to a textured “rock” base. The vase is then carefully carved and pierced to resemble the Japanese woodcut from Hokusai. The waves are individually textured with small divits to resemble the bubbles and foam of waves. The piece is then glazed with a clear gloss glaze for the waves and a rough matt barium based aqua glaze for the body of the “wave”. The base is stained with an underglazed and then fired to 2180 degrees.
